FAQ

Flooring Solutions FAQ

How do I know which floor coating is right for my space?

It depends on traffic, chemical exposure, moisture, temperature swings, and how you want the floor to look. We assess your slab during a free on-site visit and recommend a system. Flake is the go-to for residential garages. Metallic suits showrooms and finished basements. Urethane cement handles commercial kitchens and food plants. Polished concrete works for retail and warehouses that want low maintenance. We walk you through samples and specs before you commit.

How long do floor coatings last?

Most professional systems last 15 to 20+ years with proper prep. Industrial-grade builds like urethane cement and epoxy mortar can go longer in heavy-use environments. Lighter systems like grind-and-seal may need resealing every 3 to 5 years. We explain expected lifespan for each option during the estimate.

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?

Epoxy is the base system that bonds to concrete and provides chemical resistance and strength. Polyaspartic is a fast-curing topcoat we apply over epoxy for UV stability, abrasion resistance, and gloss retention. Most of our residential and commercial floors use both: epoxy for the body, polyaspartic for the finish. We recommend the right combination based on your traffic and exposure.

Can you coat concrete that has cracks or moisture issues?

Usually yes. Cracks get filled and repaired as part of prep. For moisture, we test the slab and apply a vapor-mitigation primer when levels are elevated. We will not coat over an active water problem or a slab that needs structural repair first. We tell you upfront what the slab needs before quoting the coating.

How long before I can walk on or use the floor after install?

It depends on the system. For most residential jobs, furniture can go back in after 48 hours and vehicles after 72 hours. Commercial and industrial systems vary based on build thickness and ambient conditions. We give you specific return-to-service times for each zone when the install is done.

Do you remove old coatings or failed DIY kits?

Yes. We diamond-grind to remove the old material and open the pore structure of the concrete. If a previous coating was not prepped correctly, that is usually why it failed. Removing it and grinding to a clean profile is the first step to a floor that actually lasts.

What does surface preparation involve?

We diamond-grind or shot-blast the concrete to create a profile the coating can grip. We fill cracks, repair spalls, and remove contaminants like oil or old paint. If moisture is present, we install a mitigation primer. Prep is the single biggest factor in how long a floor coating lasts. We never skip it.
